Literary Biographies

LITERARY BIOGRAPHY is an important genre because it sheds light on an author’s life in relation to their body of work. There are two outstanding literary biographies published so far this year: Blake Bailey’s Cheever: A Life (Alfred A. Knopf, 2009), Tracy Daugherty’s Hiding Man: A Biography of Donald Barthelme (St. Martin’s Press, 2009) and Brad Gooch’s Flannery: A Life of Flannery O’Connor (Little, Brown, 2009).
