2007 Independent Foreign Fiction Prize Winner
THE BOOK OF CHAMELEONS (Arcadia Books, 2006) by Angolan novelist and journalist José Eduardo Agualusa has been declared the winner of the 2007 Independent Foreign Fiction Prize, it was announced on May 1, 2007. Originally published in Portuguese, O Vendedor de Passados, in 2004, The Book of Chameleons was translated from the Portuguese by Daniel Hahn. Set in contemporary Angola, the novel tackles the subject of memory and the shifting nature of truth told through a gecko, yes, you read it right, a lizard.
