2005 Guardian First Book Award
The Guardian First Book Award recognises new writing across genres, both fiction and non-fiction, and the five books that made the final cut are as follows:

Stuart: A Life Backwards (Nonfiction) / Alexander Masters
Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found (Nonfiction) / Suketu Mehta
Sightseeing (Fiction) / Rattawut Lapcharoensap
The winner will be announced on December 8, 2005

Alexander Masters has beaten a strong field of contenders to win the 2005 Guardian First Book Award for Stuart: A Life Backwards, his biography of a homeless man.
