2010 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award Shortlist

APRIL 12, 2010: The following authors and their novels have been shortlisted for the 2010 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award:

1. The Twin (trans. from the Dutch by David Colmer) (Harvill Secker) / Gerbrand Bakker (Netherlands)
2. The Elegance of the Hedgehog (trans. from the French by Alison Anderson) (Europa Editions/Gallic Press) / Muriel Barbery (France)
3. In Zodiac Light (Doubleday) / Robert Edric (Britain)
4. Settlement (trans. from the German by Philip Boehm) (Metropolitan Books) / Christopher Hein (Germany)
5. The Believers (Fig Tree) / Zoë Heller (Britain)
6. Netherland (Fourth Estate/HarperCollins/Pantheon Books) / Joseph O’Neill (Ireland)
7. God’s Own Country (Viking) / Ross Raisin (Britain)
8. Home (Farrar, Straus & Giroux/Virago Press) / Marilynne Robinson (U.S.)

There are three British authors on the shortlist: Robert Edric, Zoë Heller and Ross Raisin. There are three novels translated from the Dutch (The Twin), French (The Elegance of the Hedgehog) and German (Settlement). Gerbrand Bakker’s The Twin and Ross Raisin’s God’s Own Country are first novels. Marilynne Robinson’s Home won the 2009 Orange Prize for Fiction and the 2008 Los Angeles Times Prize for Fiction while Joseph O’Neill’s Netherland won the 2009 PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction and was longlisted for the 2008 Man Booker Prize for Fiction. Ross Raisin’s God’s Own Country was the winner of the 2009 Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award and was shortlisted for the 2008 John Llewellyn Rhys Prize and the 2008 Guardian First Book Award.

The winner of the 2010 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award will be announced on June 17, 2010
