Bryce COURTENAY
WHAT do you think of these book covers? They belong to the covers of Australian novelist Bryce COURTENAY’s latest novels: The Persimmon Tree (2007) and Fishing for Stars (2008), both published by Penguin Australia.
Both the cover is gorgeous but I think it does not represent the whole story of the book (I don't know what's the story about. But from my understanding, The persimmon tree is an 'orange' tree, orange means lively. Perhaps the orange cover need to exchange with the other one.
While fishing for star, from my understanding is an attempt to move on from something that the character has lost or she just wake-up from a bad life.
I am a book editor who lives in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I am hopelessly in love with books and the freedom to read whatever makes me happy: fiction and nonfiction. I have always been obsessed with the relationship between literature and life and its role in society. As an editor, I have edited many books, but never get tired of the grand adventure of reading. We must never underestimate the redeeming power of fiction in our lives. The idea that there is something out there that is far, far bigger than our lives sustains some of our lives. Here I will discuss only good books and their authors and point you to books and authors both popular and not so popular. I am the co-editor of URBAN ODYSSEYS: KL STORIES (MPH Publishing, 2009). I prefer the first cover. I like the orange colour. Both depict the exotic east for a western readership.
Meh. Looks like a romance novel. No likey.
Too exotic for me.
They're attractive - but not in a good way. Too cliched.
