2009 Miles Franklin Literary Award Shortlist

THE 2009 Miles Franklin Literary Award shortlist was announced on April 16, 2009, and include the following five Australian novels:

1. The Pages (Text Publishing, 2008) / Murray Bail
2. Wanting (Knopf/Random House Australia, 2008) / Richard Flanagan
3. Ice (Allen & Unwin, 2008) / Louis Nowra
4. The Slap (Allen & Unwin, 2008) / Christos Tsiolkas
5. Breath (Penguin, 2008) / Tim Winton

Winton was twice shortlisted for the Booker Prize and has won the Miles Franklin Award three times already, for Shallows (1984), Cloudstreet (1992) and Dirt Music (2002). Bail won the Miles Franklin in 1999 for Eucalyptus.

The winner will be announced on June 18, 2009
