THE 2008 Miles Franklin Literary Award longlist was announced on March 13, 2008, and include the following nine Australian novels:

2. Love Without Hope (Pan Macmillan Australia, 2007) / Rodney Hall
3. Orpheus Lost (Fourth Estate/HarperCollins Publishers Australia, 2007) / Janette Turner Hospital
4. Secrets of the Sea (Harvill Secker/Random House Australia, 2007) / Nicholas Shakespeare
5. Sorry (Vintage/Random Australia, 2007) / Gail Jones
6. The Fern Tattoo (University of Queensland Press, 2007) / David Brooks
7. The Memory Room (Alfred A. Knopf/Random House Australia, 2007) / Christopher Koch
8. The Time We Have Taken (Fourth Estate/HarperCollins Publishers Australia, 2007) / Steven Carroll
9. The Widow and Her Hero (Vintage/Random House Australia, 2007) / Tom Keneally

A shortlist of five will be announced on April 17, while the winner will be declared on June 19, 2007
